Campus Gamers Past Events
Campus Gamers has taken part in helping promoting and producing a number of events. Within their first few months of operations their success rates of events have been phenomenal, with an incredible attendance rate and donations collected for charities. With the assistance of Campus Gamers, Conestoga’s Gaming Club has held three gaming events in their first year of operations. These are the highlights of the events.
January 25th-29th – Winter-een-mas ‘10
Conestoga College celebrated the Ctrl+Alt+Delete gaming tradition, Winter-een-mas, this year. The event was focused on bringing awareness of the gaming holiday to the masses of students while raising money for Child’s Play charity. Winter-een-mas is a gaming holiday which is celebrated on the last week on January and is celebrating gaming culture. This holiday is celebrated world-wide and for more information you can visit their website Winter-een-mas.
The Conestoga Gaming Club celebrated this holiday by having 5 days of gaming events held in the school’s student life atrium. Each day’s event was celebrated in accordance to that days gaming spirit according to the Ctrl+Alt+Delete’s holiday. The first day of the holiday the club opened the season with a Batman Arkham Asylum contest, giving away a number of prizes for the best Batman player. On the second day the club hosted a Modern Warfare 2 tournament in the spirit of shooter games. This went over well, almost too well as not enough people had a chance to play (in the future they plan on having another Modern Warfare Event). The third day they had a Street Fighter tournament in the spirit of fighting games. The Street Fighter event went over so well that it even reached out to the neighboring universities and participants came in from the University of Waterloo. On the fourth day they had a Gamer/Geek Fashion show to celebrate the puzzle and strategy games. The Fashion was sponsored by a number of clothing lines and had a large number of volunteers. The final day was used for a casual Mario Kart day with a number of Mario Kart stations setup with free play for all students to come and enjoy.
