Capcom has out done themselves this time with actually putting Street Fighter 4 on the iPhone. With the new controller system on the iPhone that came out with Assains Creed, all sorts of games are taking advantage of this scaling over the the portable device – Street Fighter is no different Capcom has just announced that Street Fighter 4 will be released for the iPhone. It hasn’t been announced what characters will be avaliable in the roster but is easy to assume Ryu and Ken will be in the game (from the image provided).
I personally am not fond of the idea of fighting games being on handheld systems. Fighting games uphold a spirit competitive eSports. They should be played on the 40” LCD screen with an arcade stick, not on some little screen. I can see they would be entertaining for some people waiting for the bus, and maybe Capcom is just trying to get their piece of cell phone game market. I just don’t think this will fly, but then again the hardcore fans will buy the game no matter what system it gets ported too.
Unfortunately the iPhone will not have a full fledged Street Fighter game. This is just to appeal to an untapped market. In my opinions phone games should be simple puzzle games, maybe even an RPGs can work, but not something high paced and intense. What will the future of hand-held fighting games, well I don’t think this will be it.
